A gentle 2 week course for anyone who has always wanted to play guitar, or who still has one gathering dust in the loft. No jargon, no pressure, no commitment to lesson times. Just one lovely song, played by you.
Starts 3rd December · Cost: FREE

Most of the people I teach felt exactly like this before their first lesson. If you recognise yourself below, you are in the right place.
“I am too old to start.”
Lots of my students began in their sixties and seventies. Later in life is often when it finally feels possible.
“I am not musical enough.”
Songs are broken into tiny steps. Confidence comes first, and the music follows.
“My fingers are too stiff.”
Everything is paced around your hands and your comfort. Nobody is rushing you.
“I tried YouTube and gave up.”
Videos are brilliant, but nobody tells you where you are going wrong. Here you can reply and ask.
“The guitar has been in the loft for years.”
Dust it off. Starting again is easier than you think, and you get a free guitar prep session to get your instrument ready. It is never too late.
You are not behind, and you are not too old. You just have not had the right kind of help yet.
The family is gathered. Someone asks, “Go on then, play us something.” You pick up the guitar, a little nervous, and play. Then you see their faces.
That moment is what this course is for. It is not about becoming a rock star. It is about the look on a loved one’s face, the quiet pride of doing something you were sure you could not do, and a song that is yours to play every Christmas from now on.
You do not have to wait for the perfect time, or feel ready. Two weeks is enough to get you there, honestly, one small step at a time.
Pop your name and email in below. A welcome email arrives straight away with your log in and bonus resources.
Each teaches one small step with a quick practice task. Five to ten minutes a day is plenty.

Every email comes directly to me personally. Tell me where you are stuck and I will help.
By the end of week two you will play White Christmas from start to finish, ready for the big day.
I have been teaching guitar and ukulele for over 45 years, from primary schools to retirees, returning players, and anyone who has always wanted to play.
When I learned, I did not want a stern teacher with exams and jargon. I wanted someone patient and encouraging who would let me play songs I loved. I found that teacher, and it inspired me to teach the same way.
You will finish every session feeling better than when you started. That is my promise. What are you waiting for? This is your time.
I really wanted to play Happy Birthday for my grandson but never believed I could. Mick broke it down into bite size pieces which kept me motivated. It was a moment I will always treasure, the look on his face was priceless.

I wanted to play Here Comes The Sun for my daughter on her wedding day. Mick broke it down step by step, was so patient and encouraging making the whole process fun. On the day I played the song and saw the biggest smile. I will never forget it.

I come away from the lesson feeling positive rather than dejected, which has happened with other teachers.

Having started via YouTube videos, I was not progressing as much as I would have liked. With his guidance and patience, and choice of songs to keep me interested, I have improved immensely, motivation has returned and picking up the guitar is no longer a chore.

Starts 3rd December and is 100% free. It takes less than a minute, and you will get a welcome email and access to your resources straight away.
This type of course is not for you if you are looking for formal grades or advanced technique. We can discuss 1:1 sessions more suitable for your goals.
No. Many of my students started in their 50's, 60's and beyond. The pace is set around you.
Not at all. There are no exams, no grades and no jargon. You learn by playing.
Videos will be released to access whenever suits you, you just need to commit to spend five to ten minutes a few times a week on yourself. There will also be optional live evening sessions over the two weeks.
Everything will be recorded, so you can catch up at your own pace.
This course is 100% free. No catch, just a gentle introduction to get you doing something you've always wanted to do and to see if my style of support suits the way you want to learn.
Many people carry on. I offer one to one lessons in Colchester and online anywhere in the UK and of course, I would love to carry on supporting you but there is no obligation to sign up for anything beyond this.
